You don’t need a new remote to use scenes and synchronized controls with a supported setup. Matrix and Kickstart 2 support these features after updating to their latest applicable 2.4G firmware, but they cannot use BLE or hazard lights. Kickstart Gen 1, Kickstart Lite V1, Kickstart Lite V2, and Streetdo not support the new app features or BLE. For help identifying your helmet, see Matrix, Kickstart and Street: compatibility with the new Lumos app.
Hazard lights have an additional requirement: the USB-C version of the Lumos Remote, with your remote and compatible devices updated to the new BLE connection system.
This guide explains what you can use with your current setup and how to check your firmware.
What can I use without buying a new remote?
After updating the app and installing the available firmware updates for your devices, you can:
Set up your lights by riding scene. Use Always On, Night Ride, and Day Ride, or customize the lighting for your own rides.
Save more scenes as drafts. Keep three scenes on your devices and save additional drafts in the app to swap in later.
Apply settings across your setup. Configure one device and apply supported changes to your other devices within the same scene.
Switch scenes together. Press the power button once on a helmet or light to move your setup to the next scene.
Turn devices on and off together. With synchronized power controls enabled, turning one helmet or light on or off does the same for the rest of your setup.
These features are available with both the original 2.4G system and the new BLE system. Devices must be paired with your app and use the same connection system to work together.
Available lighting controls vary by model. Updating the app does not add hardware capabilities—such as colors or special lighting effects—to devices that do not support them.
Which remote do I have?
Check both the shape of your remote and its charging connection. The two square remotes look similar, but their upgrade options are different.
Check the charging connection to identify your square Lumos Remote.

Supported after completing the BLE update and setup for the remote and compatible devices
Having a USB-C remote does not automatically mean your setup is already on BLE. If it is still running the original firmware, complete the upgrade process first.
What is the difference between a firmware update and a BLE upgrade?
An app update updates the software on your phone. A firmware update updates the software inside a helmet, light, or remote.
The BLE upgrade changes the connection system your compatible devices use to communicate with one another.
Keeping your current remote
Moving an existing 2.4G setup to BLE requires a USB-C Lumos Remote and BLE-compatible helmets and lights. If a Matrix or Kickstart 2 is paired with the app, the app keeps your setup on 2.4G and does not show the remote upgrade card. This keeps your helmet, lights, and compatible remote working together.
These remotes cannot be upgraded to BLE because of their hardware. This does not prevent you from using the new app, scenes, or synchronized controls with your compatible 2.4G setup.
Moving to BLE
For an existing 2.4G setup, you’ll need a USB-C Lumos Remote to move compatible devices to BLE.
The guided process updates the remote, pairs it with the app, and then makes the BLE firmware updates available for your compatible helmets and lights. Updating only the remote does not complete the upgrade for the rest of your setup.
BLE supports hazard lights and provides a foundation for future development, including closer integration with e-bikes. It is not a guarantee of compatibility with every e-bike or future feature.
No. The new app supports both connection systems, but 2.4G devices and BLE devices cannot communicate with one another.
This means:
A 2.4G remote cannot control devices that have moved to BLE.
Devices on different systems cannot synchronize their power or scene changes with one another.
Team Sync works between 2.4G devices, or between BLE devices—not across the two systems.
Keep the devices you want to use together on the same connection system.
How do I check which system my devices use?
Check the firmware on each device, rather than the app version on your phone.
Turn on your helmet or light and connect it to the Lumos app.
Open Dashboard and tap its device card.
Find Device model and Firmware version.
Compare the full firmware version with the matching model in the table below.
Check your device model and full firmware version in the app.

These are the reference versions for this update. Match the device model and the entire version number, including the number in parentheses. Version numbers are model-specific; do not compare them across different products.

If your model or version is not listed: this table is not a complete history of every firmware release. A different version number does not automatically mean your device is unsupported. Check the update prompts in the app, or contact Lumos Support with your device model and a screenshot of its firmware version.
Remote Lite and the older charging-contact remote cannot be upgraded to BLE. Identify these remotes by their physical design; do not rely on seeing a connected remote card in the app.
What about Team Sync and automatic brake lights?
These existing features have their own compatibility requirements.
Team Sync
Team Sync’s supported model range has not changed. Kickstart Lite and Street do not support it.
Supported devices must use the same connection system: 2.4G with 2.4G, or BLE with BLE.
Automatic brake lights are separate from hazard lights.
USB-C Lumos Remote on BLE: use the automatic brake light switch in the new app.
Older charging-contact remote on 2.4G: automatic brake lights can still be enabled or disabled using the device’s physical buttons, but not through the new app.
Remote Lite: does not support activating automatic brake lights.
Update the app and install the firmware updates available for your devices. You do not need to buy a new remote for scenes or synchronized power and scene controls.
