You can move BLE-compatible Lumos devices from 2.4G to BLE using the USB-C version of the Lumos Remote. Matrix, all Kickstart versions, and Street cannot be upgraded to BLE. If you use your remote with one of these helmets, do not upgrade the remote to BLE. See Matrix, Kickstart and Street: compatibility with the new Lumos app.
Some USB-C remotes need a firmware upgrade first. Others already have BLE firmware and can be paired directly with the app. This guide helps you choose the right path and finish updating your setup.
The upgrade preserves your existing device settings.
This upgrade requires the square Lumos Remote with a USB-C charging port.
It does not work with:
The round Remote Lite.
The older square Lumos Remote with charging contacts, also called Pogo Pin.
Those remotes can continue working with compatible devices on 2.4G.
Lumos Remote — charging-contact versionLumos Remote — USB-C version
Only the USB-C version of the Lumos Remote can be upgraded to BLE.
Important: 2.4G and BLE devices cannot communicate with one another. During the upgrade, some devices may temporarily be on different systems. Finish updating your compatible setup and check that it works before riding.
Before you begin
Have the following ready:
The latest Lumos app.
Your USB-C Lumos Remote.
Its USB-C charging cable and a power source.
The compatible helmets and lights you want to upgrade.
Your phone, with Bluetooth enabled and an internet connection.
Keep your phone and devices close together. Do not interrupt an update while it is in progress.
A newly purchased remote may still have 2.4G firmware from earlier stock. Newer production units will come with BLE firmware, so the purchase date alone does not tell you which version you have.
First, follow the remote-to-device pairing instructions for your helmet or light. Make sure that helmet or light is also paired with the Lumos app, powered on, and connected.
With the initial firmware updates and connection checks complete:
What appears in the app
What to do
A square remote card appears
The remote is using 2.4G. Open the card, identify its charging connection, and continue with the upgrade below.
No square remote card appears
If a Matrix or Kickstart 2 is paired with the app, no upgrade card will appear; keep your setup on 2.4G. Otherwise, go to Step 5 only if your remote is confirmed to be running BLE. If you are unsure, contact Lumos Support.
Do not use a missing card alone to identify the firmware if your helmet or light is offline or has not been paired with the app.
If a square remote card appears
Check the physical charging connection before choosing an option. The selection currently cannot be undone in the app.
Tap the square remote card.
Check the charging connection on your remote.
Select USB-C if it has a USB-C port.
If it has charging contacts, select Pogo Pin instead. The card will disappear and your devices will remain on 2.4G. Do not continue with the USB-C upgrade instructions.
The identification card does not mean the remote is already updated or paired with the app.
Hold both turn buttons until the yellow lights breathe, then pair the remote with the app.
6. Update your helmets and lights to BLE
Once the app recognizes your BLE remote, new firmware update prompts will become available for your compatible helmets and lights still using 2.4G.
Follow those prompts to update each device to BLE.
After each update, turn the device on and wait for it to reconnect automatically. You do not need to pair the helmet or light again, and its existing settings are preserved.
Complete the updates for all compatible devices you want to control together. A helmet or light left on 2.4G cannot communicate with your BLE remote or BLE devices.
Update each compatible helmet and light to BLE, then turn it on and wait for it to reconnect automatically.
7. Check your setup before riding
Confirm that:
The USB-C remote is paired and connected to the app.
Each compatible helmet and light you intended to migrate has completed its BLE update.
Left and right turn signals respond correctly on supported devices.
Your scene changes work together.
Synchronized power controls work as expected where enabled.
First, check that your helmet or light has completed its initial firmware update and is powered on, paired with the app, and connected.
If a Matrix or Kickstart 2 is paired with the app, the missing upgrade card is expected: your setup stays on 2.4G. Otherwise, follow Step 2 and continue to Step 5 only if your remote is confirmed to be running BLE. A missing card alone does not identify the remote’s firmware.
The selection currently cannot be undone in the app.
Do not continue with update instructions intended for a different remote type. Contact Lumos Support with a photo of your remote’s charging connection and a screenshot of the app.
The remote is paired, but my helmets and lights have not moved to BLE
Pairing the remote does not automatically update your helmets and lights.
Check for the new firmware update prompts and complete Step 6 for each compatible device.
The remote stopped controlling some devices during the upgrade
Check which devices have completed their BLE updates. Devices still on 2.4G cannot communicate with a BLE remote.
If the affected helmet is a Matrix, any Kickstart model, or Street, contact Lumos Support—it cannot be upgraded to BLE. For devices that support BLE, finish the remaining firmware updates before checking the whole setup again.
An update failed or stopped
If an update fails or has stopped:
Close and reopen the Lumos app.
Restart the device whose update failed.
Follow the update prompts to try again.
For a failed remote update, repeat the manual update-mode steps when instructed.
Do not interrupt an update that is still progressing normally. Restarting to retry a failed update does not undo an incorrect charging-connection selection.
