Your Lumos remote controls the turn signals on compatible helmets and lights. How you pair it depends on which remote you have and whether it has been updated to the new connection system.
Start by identifying your remote below.
1. Identify your remote
The two square remotes look similar from the front. Check the charging connection underneath to tell them apart.
Remote
How to recognize it
How it connects
Remote Lite
Round, with a replaceable battery
Pairs directly with a compatible helmet, not with the app
Lumos Remote — charging-contact version
Square, with exposed charging contacts instead of a USB-C port
Uses direct pairing with compatible devices on the older connection system
Lumos Remote — USB-C version
Square, with a USB-C charging port
Can pair with the app after being updated to the new BLE connection system

2. Set up a USB-C Lumos Remote with the app
Check whether your remote needs an update
Direct app pairing requires the USB-C remote to use BLE, the new connection system introduced with this update.
Having a USB-C port means your remote supports the upgrade—it does not necessarily mean the upgrade is already installed.
If you use the remote with Matrix, any Kickstart model, or Street, do not upgrade it to BLE. These helmets cannot use BLE. For a setup made entirely of BLE-compatible devices, follow How to upgrade your USB-C remote and devices to BLE if the remote still needs updating. That guide includes pairing at the correct stage.
Seeing a remote card that asks how your remote charges? That is part of the upgrade process. It does not mean the remote has already been paired with the app.
Pair the updated remote
Once your USB-C remote is running BLE firmware:
Make sure the remote has charge and keep it near your phone.
Turn on Bluetooth and allow the Lumos app to find nearby devices.
Press and hold both the left and right turn buttons together until the remote enters pairing mode, then release them.
In the Lumos app, open the Dashboard and tap +.
When your remote appears, tap Pair and wait for pairing to complete.
Return to the Dashboard and check that the remote appears as connected, with its battery information available.
For this pairing step, use the two buttons only. Holding the buttons while inserting a charging cable is a separate firmware-update procedure, covered in the upgrade guide.
How to connect the Lumos remote to the app:
Hold both turn buttons to enter pairing mode, then pair the remote in the app.
Finish any remaining device updates
If you are completing an upgrade, the app may now offer further firmware updates for your helmets and lights. Complete those updates before testing the remote.
Your remote and the devices it controls must use the same connection system. A remote running BLE cannot control a helmet or light that is still using the older system.
Choose Horizontal placement or Vertical placement to match how the remote is mounted on your bike. Use the illustrations in the app as your guide.

3. Set up Remote Lite or a charging-contact remote
These remotes connect directly to compatible devices using the older connection system. They do not pair directly with the Lumos app and cannot be upgraded to BLE.
If your remote already controls your helmet correctly, you do not need to pair it again simply because you updated the app.
Pair directly with a compatible helmet
If you are setting up a replacement remote or need to restore its connection:
Keep the helmet and remote close together, with both disconnected from charging cables.
With the helmet turned off, press and hold its power button until it enters pairing mode.
Press and hold both turn buttons on the remote until its pairing lights appear, then release them.
After a brief pause, press the remote’s left turn button.
Check that the helmet’s left turn signal responds. Press the same button again to cancel the signal.
These direct-pairing instructions also apply to a USB-C remote that is still using the older connection system. Once it has been upgraded to BLE, use the app-pairing instructions above.
Using a square remote with Firefly lights
For a setup that remains on the older connection system, follow the light-specific instructions for Firefly or Firefly Mini.
Remote Lite does not support Firefly or Firefly Mini turn-signal control. Pairing it with a helmet does not add that capability.
4. Check the turn signals before riding
With pairing and any required updates complete:
Turn on the helmet and compatible lights you want to use.
Press the remote’s left turn button and check the left turn signals.
Press the same button again to cancel.
Repeat with the right turn button.
Check the actual lights, not just the buttons on the remote.
If you have Remote Lite or a charging-contact remote, you can still use scenes and synchronized power and scene control on supported devices after updating the app and device firmware. A new remote is not required for those features.
